2009 Under 9s Review - better late than never

Hook’s under 9 team managed by Vinny Gardner had a fantastic season! Playing 8 league games and 3 friendlies the boys won all but 1 match and were crowned Champions of the North Hampshire “Starlings” League for the first time. The league included Basingstoke ‘A’, Alton and Aldershot so it was a strong competition to win.

3 matches actually went to the final over with our young stars showing how much they have developed over the summer by getting us to the target, as on each occasion they were batting! It is hard to mention individuals but suffice to say that our Captain Elliott Walker led from the front and was a credit to the Club throughout.

We also reached the semi-finals of the Basingstoke Festival, winning our 3 group games and quarter-final before losing to a very strong Basingstoke side. 6 of our side can play again next season in the same competition so we are looking to go at least one better time.

Elliott, Alex B, Oliver, James and Max will all be missed as they go up to the under 11’s…….good luck boys. But that still leaves us with 9 or 10 of last years squad plus any new players that join……we are keen on any year 2/3/4 cricketers so please encourage your classmates to join us on a Thursday night………….especially you Hook and Yateley Manor boys……….

Special thanks must go to Simon, Josh and all of the coaches for their dedication and help on a Thursday night and Leahney, Carolyn, Melanie, Michele, Chris, Jenn, Jane & Julie for helping with lovely cakes and snacks between innings. Without a pitch we could not play so Dave Moore…..we are very grateful!

Finally thanks to all of the Dads and especially my scorers John Hall and Ash Wood for their valuable assistance.
